Offshore Oil & Gas Medicals & Assessments

Offshore medicals are carried out to ensure an individual is fit to work in an offshore oil and gas exploration and production environment and travel to a specific country, and to promote good health in general.


OGUK Offshore Medicals

Offshore workers need to pass an Offshore Medical Examination if they wish to work offshore.

An OGUK Offshore Medical consists of the following:
  • Completion of Past Medical History Questionnaire
  • Urinalysis – routine & microscopic urine tests
  • Near, Distance and Colour Vision 
  • Clinical Examinations of all body systems including BMI calculation
  • Spirometry - Pulmonary Function Tests
  • Audiogram - hearing assessment 
  • ECG
  • Consultation with an OGUK doctor
  • Laboratory tests – Haematology, Biochemistry, Serology
  • Drugs of Abuse & Alcohol tests

ERT Medicals

Members of Emergency Response Teams (ERT) require a higher level of fitness which is assessed by an ERT Medical Examination.

The ERT Medical is similar to the OGUK Offshore Medical with the addition of an ERT Health Review, Spirometry and a Fitness Test - TMT Stress test / Chester Step.

An annual review including Spirometry and a Fitness Test - TMT Stress test / Chester Step is required.
